Now is the time to make your voice heard!

Colorado voters passed Proposition 129 on the November 2025 ballot, establishing the Mid-Level Practitioner role, now officially titled Veterinary Professional Associate. This position will take effect on January 1, 2026.

What's next?

A task force of representatives from Colorado Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA), CSU College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences (CVMBS), and Colorado Association of Certified Veterinary Technicians (CACVT), has been established to contribute to the State Board of Veterinary Medicine’s (SBVM) rulemaking process.

Why it matters

We want to provide the best guidance possible to the SBVM to create rules that will determine the success of this new profession and its impacts on the veterinary profession.

Your input is critical in shaping the rules that will define this new profession.
What you can do

Come to the Town Hall to share constructive feedback and help ensure the VPA is implemented thoughtfully and effectively in our state.

This is not a space for opposition but an opportunity to unite and provide a strong, collective voice to guide the task force.

We want your input in these areas:

  • Definition of and Qualifications for the VPA
  • Accreditation and Credentialing Organizations
  • Scope of Practice, Delegation of Tasks, Levels of Supervision
  • Designation of Supervising Veterinarians / Agreement to Supervise VPA
  • Discipline and Liability
  • Records
  • Access to care challenges that the VPA could help to alleviate

Please identify your top five concerns and opportunities to share during the forum.
