CVMA Nominating Committee Announces Candidates for the CVMA Board of Directors 2026-2027

Nomination by Petition Period now open

The CVMA Nominating Committee is pleased to present the following candidates for service on the CVMA Board of Directors for the 2026–2027 term. Kevin Lisenbee, DVM has been nominated for the position of President-elect, and Ron Carsten, DVM, PhD has been nominated for the position of Secretary/Treasurer-elect.

CVMA greatly appreciates the time, care, and professionalism the Nominating Committee devoted to identifying, recruiting, and evaluating qualified candidates for leadership service to the Association. The work of the Nominating Committee is an important component of CVMA’s governance process, helping support thoughtful leadership succession, broad professional representation, and continued stewardship of the Association’s mission, strategic priorities, and fiduciary responsibilities.

CVMA also announces that the Nomination by Petition period is now open and will remain open until midnight MT on Thursday, June 18. In accordance with the CVMA Bylaws, additional candidates may be placed into nomination by petition with signatures from 2.5% of the voting DVM membership (54 voting members).

The eight member 2026-2027 CVMA Board of Directors will take office on September 26, 2026 at CE West.

Dr. Kevin Lisenbee is a small animal general practitioner in Colorado Springs. He is originally from Oklahoma, where he grew up in the suburbs of Tulsa and moved to the Pikes Peak region after graduating from Oklahoma State University in 2014.

Dr. Lisenbee currently serves as CVMA Secretary/Treasurer. He reports that he had the great honor of being a part of the CVMA Power of 10 Class of 2022 and it was a transformative experience for him. The introspection and community building as part of that program inspired him to get involved in organized veterinary medicine. He served as the CVMA Chapter 7 President and plans to remain involved with CVMA at all levels, as giving back to the profession brings him joy.

His professional interests include dentistry, spay/neuter, teaching students/externs/techs, and health certificates. When not at work, Dr. Lisenbee and his wife Tanna love to travel anywhere from small Colorado towns to international destinations. When not traveling, they enjoy spending time with their Cavalier King Charles puppy named Pippin.

Ron Carsten, DVM, PhD | Secretary/Treasurer-elect

Dr. Ron Carsten started his veterinary career as a certified veterinary technician with experience in mixed animal practice, small animal practice, and as a surgery technician at a university surgery research facility. He completed his DVM at Colorado State University in 1986 and subsequently completed a MS in Anatomy and Neurobiology and a PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology. His veterinary clinical experience includes activity in mixed, small, emergency, and integrative practice settings. He is the owner of the practice that he opened in his hometown of Glenwood Springs. In addition to his clinical experience, Dr. Carsten has been active in veterinary research, academics, teaching, industry technical support, regulation, organized veterinary board and committee work, and community activities.

A fundamental part of Dr. Carsten’s professional view has been the importance of life long learning and engaging in education. He has been faculty and taught at Colorado Mountain College, NIH National Cancer Institute, and numerous annual veterinary conferences and other continuing education events. Dr. Carsten is the founder of Colorado Animal Rescue, a past State Board of Veterinary Medicine president, and recipient of the CVMA Distinguished Service Award (2022). Currently he is a Colorado Mountain College adjunct faculty and writes a monthly pet health care column for the Glenwood Springs Post Independent newspaper. Dr. Carsten is blessed with two wonderful children and his wife who has been his constant companion since the day they met when he was 15 years old.

A member of CVMA since completing his DVM, Dr. Carsten has provided lectures for the CVMA Power of Ten and state required CE. In addition, he has been active with the CVMA Advocacy Commission since 2025. He looks forward to continuing to contribute his broad veterinary perspective to the CVMA and the veterinary profession as a member of the CVMA Board.
