Back for Year Two: CVMA Supports Colorado Mountain College’s Vet Science Camp

CVMA was proud to once again support Colorado Mountain College’s immersive Vet Science Camp in Glenwood Springs—an inspiring three-day experience designed for high school 4-H students from across the state. Now in its second year, the camp welcomed a diverse group of freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors, including three enthusiastic return campers.

Throughout the program, students dove into hands-on labs and real-world veterinary scenarios that brought science to life. They participated in dissection, clinical pathology, and injection labs, while rotating through sessions on wildlife and exotics, canine and equine behavior, and large animal ruminant care.

A Registered Veterinary Technician from Banfield Animal Hospital joined the group to share insights about a day in the life of an RVT, adding professional perspective to the camp’s dynamic programming. Students also worked through small animal medical scenarios using faculty dogs as patients—practicing sample collection, physical exams, and diagnostic testing in a team-based format.

Evenings offered a balance of fun and enrichment. Campers climbed in the Fieldhouse, made toys for resident animals, and deepened their connection to the veterinary community through shared experiences.

The feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Several students expressed interest in pursuing veterinary careers, and more than a few wished the camp could last an entire week. With bright young minds and contagious enthusiasm, it’s clear the future of veterinary medicine in Colorado is in good hands.
