Relief / Part-time Veterinarian
ACCEPTING RESUMES – VETS AND TECHS: Our practice. Claws’n’Paws Mobile Veterinary Services is a high quality busy small animal house call practice serving greater Colorado Springs. We spend about half our day doing routine healthy per visits and vaccines, and about half our day doing medical cases (illness, injury, etc.). We have a surgery suite at our business office, and do all surgical and dental procedures on Thursdays. We utilize Pikes Peak Vet for digital xrays and to send out labs. We have a well equipped and organized van to carry our doctor bag, procedures equipment, scales, pharmacy, and coolers. We go into the clients’ homes, usually sit on the floor with the patients, and provide top tier care. We have a laptop and printer in the van to type up the record / invoice, leave a copy with the owner, and collect payment. Our business hours are Monday – Friday, 9am-6pm. So our work day begins at 815-830am and ends anywhere from 5-7pm depending on the day and needs of the people involved. Tech / Assistant needed. Candidates must have a clean driving record and be able / willing to drive a small van throughout the city. We utilize Google calendar and maps for scheduling and navigation. They must possess excellent restraint techniques and skills that keep us safe without upsetting the clients. They must have the ability to get on and off the floor, in and out of the vehicle, and carry equipment up to 50lbs all day without problems. The best candidates will also have strong basic tech skills such as IV blood draw, IV catheter placement, medication and fluid administration, filling prescriptions, clean handwriting (lab forms, rabies certs, RX labels), and a positive attitude. Initially we are looking for someone to work 2 days a week, with starting pay of $12-14 / hour depending on skills and experience. Relief / Part-time Veterinarian needed. Candidates must have a minimum of 3-5 years of clinical private practice experience. An understanding of both rapid assessment of the patient and clear communication with the owner are the foundation of our success. We have to be able to provide information and basic treatment decisions at the appointment, frequently without labwork or xray results until 24-48 hours later. Our primary initial data base is a complete history and assessment of the environment, and a comprehensive physical exam. We do work in teams of 2, but that means the veterinarian has to be able and willing to either restrain the patient, or acquire lab samples / administer treatments. We usually work on the floor, as we have found the patients to be more at ease and comfortable, so mobility and flexibility is a consideration. We do humane euthanasia for our existing clients, and transport the patients to Lasting Paws for them. The majority of our patients are cats and dogs, but I do see small exotic mammals – so some experience with exotics is a plus but not required. Also, the ability to assess surgical patients and discuss / recommend/ provide an estimate for surgery is necessary, but not necessarily the desire to do the surgeries. Currently, our main need is for someone to work Fridays (although a different day of the week could be discussed), with a starting pay of $50-55 / hour depending on skills and experience. We are growing, and the right candidates could easily create value and become full time employees.
