April 7 - 8, 2018
Join us for PetCheck 2018, and help us give back to the community by providing pets in need with the veterinary care they deserve! Last year, PetCheck saw nearly 1,000 clients! These clients, while living on limited resources, love their pets dearly and truly want the best care for them.
CVMA is asking member clinics to once again come together to provide preventive care exams and rabies vaccinations to underprivileged pets.
During PetCheck, participating clinics provide pre-registered dogs and cats a basic physical exam and rabies vaccination, and counsel pet owners on any additional veterinary care the animal may need. We are pleased to announce that Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health-Merial will once again provide each clinic that participates with a tray of rabies vaccines.
Through this collective effort, we are afforded an unparalleled messaging opportunity that neither CVMA nor individual veterinarians could afford to undertake. The coverage that 9News and News 5 provides — before, during, and after the event — offers the veterinary community a unique opportunity to promote the importance of regular veterinary care, wellness exams, and proper vaccinations, making a tremendous impact on the lives of Colorado pets and people!

In recent years, we have DOUBLED our media coverage, reaching cities all across Colorado. In addition to the coverage 9News (Denver Metro Area) and News 5 (Southern Colorado) provides, CMVA makes sure to contact local publications in each city where there’s a participating clinic to help spread the word.
In 2017, PetCheck was covered in publications such as The Denver Post, Steamboat Pilot and Today, The Greeley Tribune, the Summit Daily News, the Daily Camera, the Longmont Times-Call, the Canon City Daily Record, and the La Junta Tribune-Democrat.
The eighth annual PetCheck was held April 8 and 9, 2017 throughout Colorado, and thanks to the generosity of CVMA members, nearly 1,000 pets received a much-needed wellness exam and a rabies vaccination (if appropriate)!
With 53 clinics across the state providing wellness exams and rabies vaccinations to almost 1,000 pets this year, CVMA members have a lot to be proud of! Pets helped with the PetCheck program belonged to financially disadvantaged pet owners. With PetCheck, these owners were able to access and receive needed care for their cat or dog that they may not have otherwise been able to obtain. Thank you to all the generous clinics that donated their time, staff, and resources!
We would also like to extend a generous thank you to Merial, for providing rabies vaccine trays to each participating clinic during the 2017 PetCheck program.
CVMA owes a heartfelt thank you to our 17 volunteers, who donated their time for the phone bank on April 3 2017, and in less than three hours had filled nearly 1,000 appointments.
This also could not have been a success without the wonderful assistance of our administrative volunteers and the CVMA staff team, who all helped make the program run smoothly. We couldn’t have made the event successful without the help of our volunteers and team!
Each year, CVMA partners with 9News KUSA and News 5 KOAA to bring 9PetCheck and 5PetCheck to Colorado. CVMA member veterinarians generously donate their time and open their clinics to provide free wellness exams and rabies vaccinations to pet owners across the state who are facing economic adversity. The event not only helps give back to local communities, it provides an unparalleled opportunity to underscore the importance of preventive pet healthcare as well as the veterinarian’s crucial role in public health protection. The coverage 9News and News 5 provide – before, during, and after the event – puts veterinarians on the air and in the public spotlight in a way we’ve only been able to dream about!
Member volunteers who participate provide pre-registered dogs and cats a basic physical exam and rabies vaccination as well as counsel pet owners on any additional veterinary care the animal may need (dentals, x-rays, blood work, etc). Participating clinics are responsible for opening and staffing their clinics during the voluntary event and providing the complimentary exam and rabies vaccination (if appropriate).
9News and News 5 will promote the event on-air and have one designated day to accept appointment calls on its hotline.
