April 6 & 7, 2019
CVMA is busy planning the details for PetCheck 2019. Please continue to check this website as content will be updated as soon as it becomes available.
See you in April!
Join us for the 10th annual PetCheck, and help give back to the community by providing pets in need with the veterinary care they deserve!
Once again, CVMA is asking member clinics to come together to provide preventive care exams and rabies vaccinations to underprivileged pets.
Last year, PetCheck saw over 1,100 clients! These clients, while living on limited resources, love their pets dearly and want the best care for them.
During PetCheck, participating clinics provide pre-registered dogs and cats a basic physical exam and rabies vaccination, and counsel pet owners on any additional veterinary care the animal may need. We are pleased to announce that Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health will once again provide each participating clinic a tray of rabies vaccines.
2019 marks the 10th anniversary of the PetCheck program – an achievement we are incredibly proud of. Since its inception in 2010, CVMA members across the state have generously donated their time to provide free wellness exams and rabies vaccinations to over 9,600 pets in need. PetCheck is a unique opportunity for the veterinary community to make a tremendous impact on the lives of pets and people in Colorado, and educate the public about the importance of regular veterinary care, wellness exams, and proper vaccinations.
Through the collective effort of PetCheck, we are afforded an unparalleled messaging opportunity that neither CVMA nor individual veterinarians could afford to undertake. The coverage that 9News and News 5 provides — before, during, and after the event — offers the veterinary community a unique opportunity to promote the importance of regular veterinary care, wellness exams, and proper vaccinations, making a tremendous impact on the lives of Colorado pets and people!
In recent years, we have DOUBLED our media coverage, reaching cities all across Colorado. In addition to the coverage 9News (Denver Metro Area) and News 5 (Southern Colorado) provides, CMVA makes sure to contact local publications in each city where there’s a participating clinic to help spread the word.
In 2017, PetCheck was covered in publications such as The Denver Post, Steamboat Pilot and Today, The Greeley Tribune, the Summit Daily News, the Daily Camera, the Longmont Times-Call, the Canon City Daily Record, and the La Junta Tribune-Democrat.
The ninth annual PetCheck was held April 7 and 8, 2018 throughout Colorado, and thanks to the generosity of CVMA members, over 1,100 pets received a much-needed wellness exam and a rabies vaccination (if appropriate)!
With 54 clinics across the state providing wellness exams and rabies vaccinations to over 1,100 pets this year, CVMA members have a lot to be proud of! Pets helped with the PetCheck program belonged to financially disadvantaged pet owners. With PetCheck, these owners were able to access and receive needed care for their cat or dog that they may not have otherwise been able to obtain. Thank you to all the generous clinics that donated their time, staff, and resources!
We would also like to extend a generous thank you to Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health, for providing rabies vaccine trays to each participating clinic during the 2018 PetCheck program.
CVMA would like to extend a special thank you to our media partners, 9News KUSA & News 5. Thank you so much for your continued support of 9PetCheck and 5PetCheck — we wouldn’t be able to reach nearly as many people without the awareness you bring to this wonderful community event each year. The coverage that 9News & News 5 provided before, during, and after the event, offers the veterinary community a unique opportunity to promote the importance of regular veterinary care, wellness exams, and proper vaccinations.
CVMA owes a heartfelt thank you to our 14 volunteers, who donated their time for the phone bank on Monday, April 2, 2018, and filled more than 972 appointments in four hours.
This also could not have been a success without the wonderful assistance of our administrative volunteers and the CVMA staff team, who all helped make the program run smoothly. We couldn’t have made the event successful without the help of our volunteers and team!
Each year, CVMA partners with 9News KUSA and News 5 KOAA to bring 9PetCheck and 5PetCheck to Colorado. CVMA member veterinarians generously donate their time and open their clinics to provide free wellness exams and rabies vaccinations to pet owners across the state who are facing economic adversity. The event not only helps give back to local communities, it provides an unparalleled opportunity to underscore the importance of preventive pet healthcare as well as the veterinarian’s crucial role in public health protection. The coverage 9News and News 5 provide – before, during, and after the event – puts veterinarians on the air and in the public spotlight in a way we’ve only been able to dream about!
Member volunteers who participate provide pre-registered dogs and cats a basic physical exam and rabies vaccination as well as counsel pet owners on any additional veterinary care the animal may need (dentals, x-rays, blood work, etc). Participating clinics are responsible for opening and staffing their clinics during the voluntary event and providing the complimentary exam and rabies vaccination (if appropriate).
9News and News 5 will promote the event on-air and have one designated day to accept appointment calls on its hotline.
