New Equine Education Program!

CVMA is excited to add an annual equine education program in our learning portfolio!  Join us for 8 hours of instruction and hands-on leaning designed for the equine and mixed practice practitioner.

This year’s CE Equine topic:

Examination, Imaging, and Management of the Sport Horse

This lecture and wet-lab will focus on diagnosing, treating and managing problems specific to the sport horse, with special emphasis on the axial skeleton. Topics will include imaging of the cervical spine with case based examples, imaging the back and pelvis, treatment strategies for when problem areas are identified, and interactive discussion regarding cases.

Wet lab topics will include:

  • Demonstration of cervical facet and cranial and caudal sacroiliac joint injection via ultrasound guidance.
  • Demonstration of transrectal ultrasound of lumbosacral region including sacroiliac and intertransverse joints.
  • Obtaining ultrasound images of cervical structures (facet joints and poll)
  • Obtaining ultrasound images of the back (facet joints, dorsal spinous process spacing, supraspinous ligament etc.)
  • Obtaining cervical spine radiographs (lateral and oblique projections)
  • Ultrasound guided injections of the axial skeleton practice on cadaver specimens.

CE approval is pending for 8 hours of education through the Colorado State Board of Veterinary Medicine. In order to earn the CE credits, attendees must participate in each of the presentations throughout the program. A Record of Participation will be given at registration, which you will retain for your files.
